CUENTOS: Every Altar Begins with a Story is a contemporary theatrical dance production inspired by Día de los Muertos and the stories we carry with us.
Through movement, music, and poetry, an altar and its cuentos come alive. La Catrina, our Keeper of Stories, invites us into a world where memories are revived and stories are told. Alongside her are El Catrín, the Keeper of Celebration, the Alebrije, our spirit guide, and the Calacas, who bring each cuento to life.
CUENTOS takes us on a journey of love, family, resilience, joy, grief, forgiveness, and strength. It celebrates those who came before us, gives space to stories that must be told, and honors the memories that connect us across generations.
At its heart, CUENTOS reminds us that an altar is more than what we see. Behind every photograph, flower, candle, and offering is a life, a memory, and a story waiting to be remembered.
