Preserving Cuba's cultural memory takes more than stories. Remembering Cuba is possible through artistic experiences in sight and sound–through melodies and rhythms of music, through colorful manifestations in the domain of painting, and through striking poetic verse that conjures images beyond sight.
Painting, poetry, and performance are distinct art forms, yet they all burn from the same spark: to create, inspire, honor, and immortalize a culture's memory and enduring spirit.
Cuba en la Memoria is more than a concert featuring 19th- and 20th-century Cuban composers—it celebrates how three disciplines intertwine to preserve Cuba's cultural memory and immerse you in it. Reflecting the soul of a homeland deeply missed, the N Blanco Y Negro piano duo has crafted a unique program that seamlessly weaves live piano performance, poetry readings, and projected works of art to invite us to reconnect with our deeply yearned-for Cuban roots.
The spirit of Cuba always stays with you, no matter how far you travel from the Island's shores. Like an eternal sun, her memory never sets and forever burns in the hearts of the exiles.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
N Blanco Y Negro piano duo was founded in 2017, and their first recital took place that same year in Miami, FL, USA. Since then, the duo has performed in the USA and Europe.
In 2021, their musical affinity and virtuosity earned them three international competitions: a Gold Medal in Macedonia, Laureate in France, and a Gold Medal in Italy. In November of 2023, the duo won the Euterpe Music Awards in Berlin, Germany.
The pianists, both of Cuban descent, studied in the USA and the USSR. Mirta Gómez graduated from the Juilliard School in New York City, and Sahily Cánovas graduated from the Kyiv and Odesa State Conservatories in Ukraine. Both artists have performed as soloists in the USA, Canada, South America, and Europe.
In 2023 and 2024, the duo performed in Europe, Central America, and the USA. In April 2025, the duo won the Bronze Medal at the International Schubert Competition in Vienna, Austria.
