Wilson’s talk will begin by explaining the analytical frame found The Politics of Hate: How the Christian Right Darkened America’s Political Soul, particularly focusing on political strategy and strategic effect. After highlighting the multi-methods approach, including participant observation, discourse analysis of over 20k emails from nine Christian Right political organizations, expert interviews, and close examination of group finances, Wilson will raise questions about the ’sudden’ appearance of Christian right politics in the UK.
Angelia Wilson, DPhil, FAcSS, is a Professor of Politics at the University of Manchester where she also serves as Associate Vice President, International. Her research explores the intersections of social and religious conservatism, feminist political theory and normative policy/politics. Wilson’s recent book, The Politics of Hate, explores the political strategy and strategic effect of the American Christian Right. As an experienced political commentator, Wilson regularly appears on British new media, is quoted in US and European news outlets, and has given talks on religion and politics in Saudia Arabia, UAE, China, Indonesia, various places in America and Europe.
