Originally, War Widows were not allowed to take part in the National November Sunday Remembrance Service and march past, however, as they wanted to show their respect to their late husbands, they began to hold a very short service on the Saturday at the Cenotaph in London. They dashed between the cars and laid their cross, said a prayer and dashed back to the pavement. From these courageous acts of remembrance sprang regional Cross Laying Services that enabled War Widows to remember their departed in a more formal and appropriate manner. Next Monday (2nd November) is the Stafford Branch Cross Laying Ceremony as advertised below. Everyone is welcome so please come along if you are able.
