𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 — 𝐇𝐚𝐚𝐠 (𝐍𝐋) & 𝐋𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐁𝐄)𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐬
𝐇𝐚𝐚𝐠 (he/they) is a professional rope bondage teacher and runs the Ellipsis Rope Events Foundation based in Rotterdam (NL). He has hosted rope events ranging from international workshops to performances, demonstrations, and rope jams since 2013. During this time, he has taught workshops throughout Europe and can often be found teaching at various festivals. Haag is passionate about photography and community work. His tying and teaching styles focus on safety, knowledge- and experience-based improvisation, high-paced tying, dynamic movement, and creativity. He has a very technical approach to rope, complemented by his dance background, psychology studies, and various hobbies that incorporate fine motor skills.

𝐋𝐢𝐞𝐬 has been modelling in rope for over 10 years. She has a professional background in educational psychology and enjoys facilitating models’ understanding and learning processes. She is particularly passionate about the mental connection that can be achieved through rope and by raw, intense emotions. Different ways of experiencing and exploring suffering are an integral part of this. She is also intrigued by the physical challenges posed by rope and by ways to practice dynamic rope as safely as possible. Body awareness and attention to the diversity between bodies are important topics for her.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐡𝐨𝐦?
This workshop is intended for tying couples who are looking to diversify their rope sessions and enjoy both the creative and technical aspects of rope bondage. Switching is allowed between exercises (not during) provided that both participants fulfill the necessary workshop requirements. This workshop will include partial suspension techniques, but all exercises can be adjusted to be practiced on the floor as well.
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭
In this workshop, we will explore how we can move beyond fixed patterns and expectations in rope. Through creative and technical exercises, we will investigate how existing structures, rope-handling techniques, and unconventional approaches can diversify our sessions and support more personal forms of expression.
The following topics will be covered throughout the workshop:
𝐿𝑜𝑜𝑝 𝑇𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑛𝑖𝑞𝑢𝑒𝑠
We will explore a category of advanced rope handling tricks developed by Haag. These loop-techniques encourage more dynamic/movement based tying or speed tying, but are also used to diversify the rope application of your existing harnesses and therefore their tying experience.
𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑂𝑢𝑟 𝐻𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑡𝑠
We will discuss the Mere Exposure Effect and Fixedness problems to gain a better understanding of how to break our existing habits as tops and bottoms. Through non-linear rope sessions, a more action-versus-result oriented tying style and informal deviance, we can facilitate uniqueness in our individual sessions.
𝑇𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎 𝐶ℎ𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑎
During the workshop we will show ways of constructing new ties and reviewing old ties through segmented-versus-assembled pattern construction. Often people combine tying techniques, shapes and patterns without a deeper understanding of their possible outcomes. We will elaborate on the distinctions between anatomical safety, structural integrity and functional applicability of ties and how tying couples can collaborate on creating safer creative sessions.

"Satisficing" is a decision-making strategy that aims for a satisfactory or adequate result, rather than the optimal solution. Instead of putting maximum exertion toward attaining the ideal outcome, satisficing focuses on pragmatic effort when confronted with tasks.” (Herbert Simon, 1956).* The term is a combination of the words satisfy and suffice. We will explore this concept to find a balance between “accuracy & safety” versus “function & intent” and to diversify the compositions of our rope scenes. We strive to simplify our rope sessions by adhering to a few simple rules to be able to focus on our enjoyment rather than the patterns and external expectations.
