Join us on the canalside for a special workshop on woodland craft where you will learn to weave green branches into fence panels.
About this Event

Green hazel is a versatile material that has many traditional uses. It has been used for making walking sticks, boats, tents charcoal and much more. In this workshop you will learn how to make hazel hurdles: a type of woven fencing. The workshop will take place at our fledgling community garden, in front of the Collective building on Old Oak Lane, and we will put the fruits of our labour to use on site to make a raised bed for a future herb garden.
During this workshop we will take a short walk along the canalside where the workshop leader will give a short talk learn on how to identify hazel within the hedgerow, its traditional uses and its importance to biodiversity along the canal. You will then be guided in the process of making hurdles and the session will culminate with us putting the finished fencing to use in the community garden.

The Canal & River Trust is the UK's largest canal charity, caring for a 2,000-mile network of stunning canals and navigable rivers. The ticket price goes towards our work maintaining this network and keeping the canals open and alive, for everyone to enjoy.

The meeting point for this session is the canalside infront of The Collective, Nash House, Old Oak Ln, London NW10 6FF

The workshop will take place out doors so sturdy footware and a waterproof jaket are advised. All other tools and materials will be provided.
