Launch Pad Creative presents a special film screening and Q&A with the filmmakers.
About this Event
COUNTRYMAN: Screening + Q&A with Filmmaker Peter Pecotić
Presented by Launch Pad Creative
Two men, one continent, and a friendship that redraws the map of belonging.
Countryman follows filmmaker Peter Pecotić, a first-generation Australian of Croatian heritage, and Warumungu artist and storyteller Joseph Williams Jungarrayi from the Northern Territory as they travel across Australia together. Along the way the film looks at connection to Country, cultural identity, migration, and what it means to call a place home when your histories with it are so different.
Supported by Screen Australia, has screened on NITV and SBS On Demand, played in cinemas across Europe and South America, and been used by the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade for public diplomacy screenings overseas.
After the screening, Peter joins us for a candid Q&A covering:
Partnership across cultures: how a creative collaboration between a migrant filmmaker and a First Nations co-producer was built on trust, shared authorship and respect
Making and moving the film: the production choices behind an intimate, on-the-road documentary, and how an independent film travelled from Australian broadcast to international cinemas and diplomatic screenings
Migration, race and belonging: what the journey revealed about identity in contemporary Australia, and the conversations it continues to open
Independent filmmaker and entrepreneur Peter Pecotić built a communications and production business across Sydney, Shanghai and Singapore before turning to documentary. His film Countryman, co-created with Warumungu artist and storyteller Joseph Williams Jungarrayi, has travelled from Australian broadcast to cinemas in Europe and South America.
