About this Event
The Centre for Sustainable Development welcomes you to a public fireside chat exploring the current state of play of international climate change negotiations.
COP 31, taking place in Antalya Turkey, brings the negotiations into a new phase, one in which the world is characterised by an overshoot trajectory. In fact, even if all Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) were to be met, we would still be moving beyond the 1.5 C temperature goal agreed in the Paris Agreement.
- Against this background, how does Scotland position itself in the negotiations and in an overshoot world?
- How can the most vulnerable, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in particular, attract and leverage the necessary climate finance to not only adapt to climate change, but also to promote their sustainable development?
- And is international trade becoming a challenge or an opportunity in the context of the climate change negotiations?
Speakers:
- Francesco Sindico, Professor of International Environmental Law, University of Strathclyde
- Tessa Ferry, Head of International Climate Change, Scottish Government
- Gail Hurley, Co-Director of the Resilient and Sustainable Islands Initiative (RESI)
At the event we will also have Strathclyde LLM students discussing the third question above on international trade.
A drinks reception and opportunity for networking will be held after the chat.
