Continence Care for Health Care Assistants & Support Workers
This practical course is designed for Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and Support Workers working in adult social care settings. Delivered by Jersey's only specialist Bladder and Bowel Nurse, the course will provide learners with the knowledge and confidence to support individuals experiencing continence issues safely, sensitively, and effectively.
Continence problems can have a significant impact on a person's health, dignity, and quality of life. This training will help participants recognise common continence concerns, understand contributing factors, and provide appropriate support within their role.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe urinary and faecal incontinence and understand who may be affected.
- Identify the different types of urinary incontinence.
- Recognise factors that can contribute to bladder and bowel problems.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of a urinary tract infection (UTI).
- Develop an understanding of the range of continence products available.
- Apply continence products effectively to promote comfort, dignity, and skin integrity.
This course supports HCAs and Support Workers to deliver person-centred continence care, improve patient safety, and enhance the wellbeing of those they support.
