Discover the joy of hand embroidery while creating your own small floral design. We’ll learn a few basic stitches, including stem stitch, chain stitch, satin stitch, fishbone stitch, and French knots, and explore how they can be combined to create playful lines, shapes, and textures. Come ready to stitch, experiment, and leave with a little piece of embroidery of your own. No experience needed!
Hadis Karami is a mixed-media fiber artist and educator whose practice explores memory, identity, and belonging through hand embroidery, weaving, and basketry. She is especially interested in using traditional hand-stitching techniques in contemporary ways, exploring how simple stitches, repetition, color, and texture can become a visual language. Hadis received her MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where she currently teaches.

After a successful run in Allston, The Shiny Shop is back - popping up at the Harvard Smith Campus Center starting Wednesday, September 9! The Shiny Shop is a free 6-week pop-up art experience focused on safety, community care, and transportation, brought to you by Alex Makes Art.
We believe fostering community is key to safety – what better way than crafting shoulder to shoulder? Browse our zine library, bedazzle accessories, make your helmet, bike, or scooter shine, and learn a new skill at The Shiny Shop this fall.
Open to all ages and abilities, this community crafting hub will be open for drop in visits from September 9 to October 15 on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, The Shiny Shop is located at the Dunster Street side of the Smith Campus Center in Harvard Square, steps from the main MBTA stop.
