About this Event
In this workshop, we will explore how inversions in contact can open up your range and play in contact improvisation. Overall it is a workshop for experienced dancers who are looking to become more comfortable in their upside down practice and who like to increase risk in their dancing safely. That means we will also look at falls and jumps to incorporate more dynamic weight shifts. We will take time to prepare the body and develop a deeper understanding of recovery, safety, and freedom in movement as we go along for a strong yet mindful practice to emerge.
The workshop is coupled with deeper listening practices to ensure that dynamic dances are coupled with tuned playfulness wherein support, being with and generosity create dances that we truly co-create. Rather than highjacking, we are learning to fall with and into space, gravity and our partner as agentic material that we collaborate with.
Lewis and Laura have been dancing alongside and together for many years now, crossing paths professionally and as dancers in jams. We are looking forward to engage this lab style co-teaching space to open up a new range for you and even ourselves, teasing out the corners we often cut and seeking the deeper trust and more rigirous play to embrace the delicious unpredictability of the form that continous to surprise and define us.
