Confidence Without the Costume looks at the gap between looking confident and truly being confident.
About this Event

We've spent a lot of MHN sessions this year talking about what keeps people in hospitality. Wellbeing, retention, the reasons good people leave. Now we want to look at something underneath all of that: confidence, and the difference between having it and performing it.

Because most of us have done the performing, we’ve walked into a busy service or into a difficult conversation projecting a certainty we didn't feel. How many times have you been told to fake it until you make it?

That's what this session is about.

We are delighted to welcome Robyn Filep from Becoming to lead the conversation.

About the session

Confidence Without the Costume looks at the gap between looking confident and truly being confident, and what it costs your teams to close that gap the wrong way. We'll get into why "fake it till you make it" has been such poor advice for so long, what performative confidence actually takes out of your best people, and how real confidence changes retention, unlocks your middle managers, and helps change stick when you're trying to make it happen. This conversation is for everyone: team leader or team member.

About Robyn Filep

Robyn is one of the co-founders of Becoming, which exists to make confidence a genuine commercial advantage rather than a nice-to-have. They combine science-backed positive psychology with hard commercial experience, turning confidence into something that fixes retention, unlocks mid-managers, and helps change actually take hold.

About Becoming

Becoming works with businesses to build confidence as a practical asset rather than a soft skill. Their approach draws on positive psychology and real commercial grounding, aimed at the moments where confidence either holds a team together or comes apart under pressure.
