The Fibonacci Quartet are rising stars of the chamber music scene and already building a flourishing performing career across Europe. In 2024, they joined the prestigious Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) and also teach as Quartet in Residence at the Royal Welsh College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.
Their programme will open with Mozart's quartet in D major which is the first of his so called Prussian quartets dedicated to the King of Prussia. This work is classical in style and is considered to be similar in style to those of Haydn. Bridge's Three Idylls for string quartet follow. Written in 1906, these pieces explore a variety of styles concluding with the lively Allegro con Moto.
Debussy's iconic quartet in G minor comprises the whole of the second half of this concert. The composer's only work for this format had a mixed reception when it was premiered in Paris in 1893 but has subsequently deservedly become a popular and frequently performed stalwart of the string quartet repertoire with its powerful yet engaging melodies.
