Sonamos Latinoamerica Cph and CkulturA presents: BATEL - A Journey Through the Drum Across the Río de la Plata Basin
Join the dancer and musician Ludmila Gallardo and percussionist Carlo Seminara, both from Argentina, for an immersive concert that transports you through the vibrant cultural landscapes of the Río de la Plata Basin. BATEL showcases the rich Afro-Latin American heritage, where powerful rhythms and melodies tell the stories of diverse communities, connecting their past to the present.
In this unique performance, drums, dance, song, and storytelling combine in a dynamic blend of tradition and innovation. Drawing inspiration from the traveling storytellers of Argentina’s coastal and northeastern regions, Gallardo and Seminara invite you on a musical journey exploring Latin American identity's roots while offering a fresh, contemporary perspective.

The artists:
LUDMILA GALLARDO has been studying dance and music since 1994. She focused her research on Afro-Latin American cultural contexts, mainly from northeastern Brazil, where she lived and trained for several years with prominent figures in dance and music.
In Buenos Aires, she created a space for teaching Afro-Latin American dances called "Espacio Caboclo," where, together with colleagues, she carried out various courses, festivals, exhibitions, and seminars with dance and percussion experts over six years.
CARLO SEMINARA is a percussionist, and music teacher, and has conducted studies and fieldwork related to Afro-rooted cultural expressions in Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Cuba. He has released three albums: *A Cada Santo una Vela* (2010), *Barcos* (2014), and *Tango iá Candombes* (2018), the latter winning the Rosario Edita Award for Best Fusion Music Album.
He founded the “Latin American Percussion” course at the “Carlos Guastavino” School of Music in Rosario, where he works as a teacher. He is also a percussion professor at the National University of the Litoral.
The concert is organized by CkulturA in collaboration with Union and Building Communities.
