Very warmly invited! On Sunday the 18th of October at 16.00 ensemble Auroras Mestizas will play a concert with beautiful baroque music in de Papegaai – St Jozefkerk Amsterdam, Adress: Kalverstraat 58. Entrance is free. After the concert we will ask you for a donation for the musicians.
Auroras Mestizas is a young baroque ensemble that was founded in 2025 by the Peruvian musicians Edilsa Samanez (soprano) and Jose Huamani (gamba). The musicians met during their studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. The ensemble is dedicated to exploring and sharing 18th century Latin American Baroque repertoire. In 2026 they were selected for the IYAP at Laus Polyphoniae in Antwerp. Also they will play in the final of the Bonporti Competition in Italy at the end of October.
About their name: Auroras is Spanish for the light of the sun in its first hours. Poetically it defines anything new. Mestizas (-mixed race) refers to the diversity of the ensemble’s members and music. Combined ‘Auroras Mestizas’ represents new light born out of diversity.
On this concert the ensemble will play music by European composers like Biber (2 of his Rosary Sonatas) and Bach (BWV 51, Höchster, mache deine Güte). There are also very beautiful pieces by Latin American composers to discover: For example ‘Cuando a un sol tan peregrino’ by Jose de Orejón y Aparicio or ‘Versos de Segundo Tono’ by Ignacio de Jerusalem y Stella.
