ANGELINE MORRISON + WOODKERNWe’re delighted to welcome acclaimed folk singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Angeline Morrison to St Endellion this September, with support from Cornwall and Devon’s exciting young contemporary folk ensemble Woodkern.
Based in Cornwall for many years, Angeline has a deep connection with the folk traditions and landscapes of the county. Her landmark album, *The Sorrow Songs: Folk Songs of Black British Experience*, brought the overlooked stories of Black British ancestors into the folk tradition and was named The Guardian’s No. 1 Folk Album of 2022.
Angeline is currently receiving fresh national acclaim following the release of Donn/Dubh (Brown/Black), her new collaborative album with Arun Sood, with The Guardian describing the pair as “British folk giants.”
This concert offers a wonderful opportunity to catch Angeline live at St Endellion and experience the extraordinary storytelling, voice and musicianship at the heart of her acclaimed solo work, including The Sorrow Songs.
Supporting Angeline is Woodkern, a seven-piece, youth-led contemporary folk group from across Cornwall and Devon.
Hot on the heels of a summer of standout gigs at The Fisherman’s Friends Festival, Wheal Martyn, Sidmouth Folk Festival and Trowbridge Festival, Woodkern weave Cornish, Irish, English and wider traditional music and song with original material to create their powerful and distinctive sound.
A very special evening of contemporary folk, deeply rooted in tradition, place and storytelling.
