🌿 Kia ora e te whānau, whānui o te hapori nei! 🌿Nau mai, haere mai, tauti mai!
You are warmly invited to join us at Arai te Uru Marae for a special Manaakitanga Community Pōwhiri, as we come together to celebrate peace, unity, and the many ways people and communities work towards a peaceful world.
🗓 Saturday 14 November 2026
📍 Arai te Uru Marae, Ōtepoti Dunedin
⏰ Please arrive at 10:30am in the carpark to prepare for the pōwhiri, which will begin at 11:00am. Our gathering will conclude around 2:00pm.
🌿 Our theme: Kia tau te rangimārie — May peace prevail.
This gathering is an opportunity to celebrate peace in all its forms, acknowledge those who have stood for peace throughout history, and recognise the everyday actions that create harmony, understanding, and respect among people.
We acknowledge Parihaka, a powerful example from Aotearoa of the commitment to peaceful resistance in the face of injustice. We honour the legacy of Tohu Kākahi and Te Whiti-o-Rongomai, whose teachings and leadership continue to inspire conversations about peace, non-violence, dignity, and standing firmly in one's beliefs without resorting to violence.
We also recognise the many people, cultures, movements, and communities throughout Aotearoa and across the world who continue to demonstrate peace through their words, actions, courage, compassion, and commitment to one another.
✨ Whether it is your first time on a marae, your first pōwhiri, or you simply feel called to come, this space is for you.
💛 Bring your whānau and friends, or come along on your own and meet beautiful new people.
🌏 We welcome you to share your culture and your own expressions of peace through kōrero, waiata, dance, storytelling, or kai. If there is a peace movement, kaupapa, cultural practice, or personal story that inspires you, we would love to hear from you, either beforehand or on the day.
Expect a day filled with ceremony, learning, laughter, kai, music, cultural sharing, and meaningful connection.
Our whakataukī for this gathering is:
“Kia tau te rangimārie.”
May peace prevail. May peace settle upon us all.
🤝 If you would like to volunteer or contribute to the day, please reach out. We welcome your support.
🌿 Haere mai, haere mai — all are welcome, all are valued.
Let us come together across cultures, generations, and communities to celebrate peace, honour those who have paved the way, and strengthen our commitment to living peacefully with one another.
Mā te rangimārie ka tupu te kotahitanga.
Through peace, unity can grow.
💛 We look forward to sharing this special day with you at Arai te Uru Marae.
