The 2026-2027 CERi Graduate Fellowship program is pleased to open several of our workshops to the wider SFU community. For students interested in community-engaged research, these sessions offer CER fundamentals and insights, as well as a chance to network and learn about each other’s ongoing work.
This workshop features two key sessions:
1. Research data management for community-engaged projects
Presented by: Keshav Mukunda, SFU Librarian
Your community project will involve collecting or working with research data, which is the underlying information that supports your research findings and other outputs. Managing this data properly is of crucial importance to the success of your project. This can include handling, storing, and securing the data responsibly, structuring and organizing the files clearly, managing access to it appropriately, and thinking about roles and responsibilities for researchers, community organization staff and community members both during the project and after it is completed. This session will give you a brief introduction to planning for data management.
2. Community-Engaged Research Methods and Methodologies Workshop
Presented by Stuart Poyntz, SFU CERi Scientific Director, and Tara Mahoney, SFU CERi Research and Engagement Manager
Community-engaged research draws on a rich diversity of methods because it reflects the diverse knowledge, priorities, cultures, and lived experiences of communities. Through examples and case studies, this workshop will explore approaches such as participatory action research, storytelling, arts-based inquiry, community mapping, peer research, and Indigenous methodologies. Participants will consider how different methods can support meaningful participation, shared knowledge creation, and research that responds to community priorities and contexts.
You will need to contact a CERi member to bring you up the elevator - please check your email for follow-up details.
