About this Event
Coming Together Gathering: A long table lunch, by Carlton, for Carlton
Sunday 29 November · 1pm · Carlton Primary School, 180 Palmerston St, Carlton
Pull up a chair. There’s a place for you at the table.
The Coming Together Gathering is a big long table lunch that brings Carlton together to celebrate the food, cultures and stories that make our neighbourhood home.
This event is here because you asked for it. After the last gathering, people across Carlton told us they wanted more chances to share a meal, meet neighbours and celebrate together. So we’ve worked together to make it happen.
It is made by the community, for the community. Local residents, volunteers, cooks and community organisations have come together as partners to plan the menu, prepare the food and set the table. Many hands, many kitchens, one shared meal.
Expect:
· A delicious shared lunch cooked by community members, with dishes from many cultures
· Music, conversation and good company
· Activities for kids and families
· Weaving and other hands-on activities
· A warm welcome for everyone
Everyone is welcome. Lunch is free. Just come along.
The event is free. If you're able to donate towards the lunch, proceeds go to other food resilience programs delivered through the CNLC, currently a weekly food market delivering staples to people in the neighbourhood.
Coming Together Agenda:
- 11am: Entertainment and stalls (running until 3pm)
- 12pm: Welcome and speeches
- 12.30 to 2pm: Lunch is served
- 2 to 3pm: More entertainment, stalls, coffee and sweets (to purchase in support of microenterprises)
This event is a shared effort between Carlton neighbours: City of Melbourne, RMIT, University of Melbourne, City North Social Innovation Precinct, Church of all Nations, The Community Grocer, St Judes Church, Just Food Collective, Carlton Primary School, Carlton Learning Precinct and Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
