Comedy for Presenters: Punch Up Your Presentation With Humor
You do not have to be a comedian to be funny.
You already have a sense of humor. You use it with friends, family, coworkers, clients, and people you trust. The challenge is learning how to bring that same natural humor into a presentation, speech, sales conversation, training session, or important business conversation without forcing it.
That is what this workshop is about.
Humor can help you hold attention, make key points stick, release tension, and create a stronger connection with the room. It can make serious ideas easier to hear. It can help people stay with you when the subject gets uncomfortable. And sometimes, one well-placed laugh can do more for a message than another five minutes of explanation.
In this 90-minute, hands-on workshop, you will learn how to recognize the humor you already have, understand the basic structure behind why jokes work, and begin applying those ideas to the way you already communicate.
We will look at how comedians create expectation, how a punchline changes the script running in the audience's mind, and why your presentation has already done much of that work for you. You will learn how to spot moments where a little humor can make your message stronger, without turning your presentation into a comedy routine.
You will also practice the craft yourself.
By the end of the session, you will have worked through the process of taking a funny thought or observation and shaping it into something you can actually use. It does not have to be perfect. It does not have to get a standing ovation. The goal is to understand the process well enough that you can keep practicing it long after the workshop ends.
You will leave with practical tools to help you:
- find the humor that already comes naturally to you
- identify moments in a presentation where humor can release tension, reinforce an idea, or reset attention
- understand premise, setup, punchline, timing, and other basic comedy mechanics
- recognize the expectation already running in your audience's mind
- turn authentic observations into usable humor
- avoid forcing jokes into places where they do not belong
- use humor in a way that supports your message and your audience
This workshop is designed for speakers, presenters, business owners, sales professionals, trainers, leaders, attorneys, and anyone else who needs people to listen, understand, remember, and connect.
And here is the bigger point:
If you communicate for a living, you are already standing in front of opportunities to use humor.
The funny moment in a story you never developed. The uncomfortable part of a presentation that could use some relief. The important point people keep forgetting. The sales conversation that gets tense at exactly the same place every time.
Those opportunities are already there.
This workshop will help you start seeing them.
You may leave with one good joke. You may leave with three rough ones. You may simply leave with a completely different way of looking at the presentations you already give.
Any of those can change the way you communicate.
Come ready to think, write, laugh, and punch up the way you present.
