From One Small Community to Another - Proud to Share Their Story of Extraordinary Kindness! This November, Broadway Kids in the County’s Adult Troupe, Broadway After Dark, is bringing one of Broadway’s most recent beloved musicals to Aroostook with COME FROM AWAY. This show tells the incredible true story of what happened in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland in the days following September 11, 2001.
When 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers were forced to land in Gander after the U.S. airspace closed, a small community suddenly found itself caring for thousands of complete strangers. The people of Gander opened their homes, schools, community centers, and hearts and what followed was a remarkable story of kindness, humor, friendship and community.
Come From Away opened on Broadway in 2017 to widespread critical acclaim and went on to become a Tony Award-winning musical. The show is based on the real events of 9/11 and on interviews with many of the actual people whose lives were changed by those five extraordinary days in Gander.
Now, in recognition of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, theater companies around the world are bringing Come From Away to communities just like ours. We're proud to tell this story right here in Aroostook County.
