“Pressure Independent Control Valves”
About this Event

“Pressure Independent Control Valves”

Benefit of Electronic vs. Mechanical PI Technology: There is typically more than one way to create a great solution and by this logic, there is more than one way to achieve pressure independence in hydronic systems. But is one better than another? Which technology reacts quicker? Which technology costs more? But most importantly, which technology controls better? Well, like most complex things in life, there is no simple answer. This presentation will discuss mechanical and electronic pressure-independent technologies and the pros and cons of each, including simple things like size and cost and more complex things like which technology can help with pump and water temperature reset strategies

pressure-independent

• PI valves should be used everywhere that flow control is important.

• Mechanical PI valves provide cost and logistical advantages in the smaller sizes.

• Electronic PI can control low flows, even at high pressure drops.

• Electronic PI is a stronger solutions for larger applications, providing metering in addition to weight, cost, and strategic control advantages.

Learning Objectives:

1) Discuss if or why should a PI valve be used on every coil.

2) Investigate the functions, benefits, and drawbacks of both Mechanical and Electronic pressure independence.

3) Compare side by side the specs and controllability of both electronic and mechanical PI technologies

4) Explore the use of PI valves with advanced control strategies.
