About this Event
How can we help move America and the District of Columbia forward after the election and work together to make our communities and government work better?
Please join us for an evening of reflection, connection, and one-on-one conversations over a light dinner as we explore this question together.
As part of the Civic Leadership Project (DCTMI’s parent organization) we have been piloting an online approach to civic dialogue that pairs people with differing viewpoints for facilitated one-on-one conversations. By first getting to know one another, participants build mutual respect and create space to explore policy questions with curiosity and openness.
Two weeks after the election, we think it's a great time to invite folks to our home at the Josephine Butler Parks Center in Columbia Heights to host similar conversations in person. It's an opportunity to reflect and talk about our values, assumptions, and responsibilities as citizens:
- What can what each of us do alongside our neighbors and peers, to contribute to a more constructive civic culture?
- How best can we as citizens, elected officials, and members of government at the local, state, and federal levels can move forward together after an election?
We will share what we are learning through our pilot and want to connect with others interested in bringing these practices into civic spaces and building partnerships.
This work reflects the broader mission of the Civic Leadership Project to build a stronger civic culture through relationships, service, personal growth, and meaningful community engagement.
