Join us for an Italian cinema evening at our next Cine Club meeting on Friday, November 20!
We’ll be screening Habemus Papam (We Have a Pope), a 2011 comedy-drama directed by Nanni Moretti and starring Michel Piccoli and Moretti himself.
The film takes us behind the walls of the Vatican, where the conclave has just elected a new pope. But just as he is about to step onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica and greet the waiting crowd, the newly elected Cardinal Melville is overcome by panic and finds himself unable to face his new role.
Concerned by the unexpected crisis, the cardinals call in a psychoanalyst, played by Nanni Moretti, to help him. What follows is a witty, touching, and deeply human story about fear, responsibility, self-doubt, and the enormous weight of other people’s expectations.
