Join the Chinese New Year Celebrations 2026 at UofG Confucius Institute!

Come celebrate the Year of the Horse with us in person! Expect fun activities, traditional performances, and a chance to dive into Chinese culture. Whether you're a student or just curious, this event is perfect for everyone. Don’t miss out on the festive vibes and great company at the UofG Confucius Institute!

All are welcome to join the Chinese New Year Celebrations 2026 - traditional Chinese live music and performances. Tickets free, but limited!

Introduction

We would be delighted to welcome you to the Chinese New Year Celebrations 2026, presented by the Confucius Institute at the University of Glasgow. This fantastic evening of traditional Chinese performances will take place on-campus on Monday 2 March 2026 between 6:00pm and 7:30pm.

The event is designed to celebrate the Spring Festival, which this year marks the beginning of the new year of the Horse in the Chinese lunar calendar. Performances include lion dance, Sichuan face changing, live music, singing and more.

Event Programme

6:00pm–6:20pm: Lion Dance, University Cloisters.

6:20pm–6:30pm: Guests invited to University Chapel venue to be seated.

6:30pm-6:35pm: Welcome & Greetings.

6:40pm-7:30pm: Performances of live music, singing, dancing and more.

Venue

This year the Lion Dance will take place in the the University Cloisters (Main Building, Gilmorehill Campus, University of Glasgow, West Quadrangle, Glasgow, G12 8QQ) and the performances will take place in the Bute Hall (Main Building, Gilmorehill Campus, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, G12 8QQ). Entry to the Cloisters venue can be made either at the Main Gate entrance or the Flagpole entrance.

This is a family friendly event, open to all staff, students and members of the public. Tickets are completely free, but as numbers are limited, we would encourage you to register as soon as possible to secure your place.
