About this Event
Chicago Readers & Authors Night: Discover Your Next Book
Come for the stories. Stay for the people who love talking about them.
Most author events follow the same tired routine: sit in rows, listen to a 60-minute reading, sit through awkward audience Q&A, and leave.
Hosted by Chicago Story Collective in the intimate Fourth-Floor Gallery at the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, Chicago Readers & Authors Night transforms book discovery into an interactive, social Friday evening.
You will meet 8 local and independent Chicago-area authors across a vibrant mix of genres (Fiction, Mystery/Thriller, Romance, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Memoir, and Nonfiction) without long stage speeches or academic panels:
- Behind-the-Book Spotlights: Each author gets just 2.5 minutes to share one untold story: the character that almost got cut, the research rabbit hole, or the real inspiration behind the plot.
- Curated Mini Book Fair: Browse tables directly, chat with writers one-on-one, and pick up signed copies directly from the creators.
- The Reader Match Card: Find your reading peers instantly. Use simple genre-matching prompts to discover new titles and break the ice-no book club required, and zero awkwardness if attending solo.
- Team Literary Trivia: Team up with other book lovers for a casual, accessible trivia round celebrating famous opening lines, Chicago literary history, and pop culture adaptations.
WHAT TO EXPECT
