Meet Graham Morgan from the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland and chat about issues facing people with mental illness in Highland
About this Event

Graham Morgan is a well known face in Mental Health Communities in Highland. Graham is the founder of HUG (Action for Mental Health) Graham worked here and championed Collective Advocacy for many many years. Graham says "I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia when I was 28; five months after my son was born and have been in an out of Hospital on a section a few times since then.

For the last 15 years I have been treated in the Community under a compulsory community treatment order but generally I have a wonderful life"

Today Graham is an author having written two amazing memoirs and he now works for the Mental Welface Commission for Scotland. In this capacity Graham is keen to come along and find out from people living here about the issues we are facing here in Inverness and the Highlands.
This is an informal session taking place in the Discovery College Lounge and providing opportunities for you to have your voice heard. No booking is required, just pop along and join in. Tea and coffee are always available and we will be pleased to see you.
If you are not sure, then Graham's own words are encouraging and welcoming

" I am happiest meeting fellow peers across the country talking about the issues and lives we lead and sharing our experiences. Sometimes I think that is where we make the greatest difference; when we sit down and natter or eat or even just go for a walk together.

I now work part time for the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland which is there to uphold and promote the rights of people with a mental illness and other conditions.

I am there as an engagement worker.

This means I travel Scotland meeting patients on psychiatric wards and in the Community; basically anywhere people are willing to meet me, finding out the issues people face and hopefully making a difference with what I hear or at least recording what we go through so there is a testament to our lives and experiences.

I look forward to maybe meeting you sometime soonish if you are happy to meet with me. "
We are indeed happy to meet with Graham and look forward to him being with us on 5th November.
