About this Event
📍 Walk the past. Honor the truth.
Discover Charlotte's Lost Slavery History, a powerful self-guided walking tour created as a Girl Scout Gold Award project with the Hornets' Nest Council. Using this digital Google map, this tour highlights 18 Uptown Charlotte sites connected to the lives, labor, and experiences of enslaved people.
Explore the places where enslaved individuals lived, worked, resisted, and—tragically—were sold. This reflective, self‑paced experience offers a meaningful way to deepen your understanding of Charlotte’s early African American history during the 2026 NCAAHGS Conference weekend.
🔎 To access the map:
Search “Google map” + “Charlotte’s Lost Slavery History” on Google.
Walk with intention. Learn with purpose. Honor the truth.
This free, self‑guided tour is an independent project and is suggested as an optional activity for 2026 NCAAHGS Conference participants. Suggested walking hours are between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM for optimal visibility and foot traffic; participants may complete the tour at any time at their own discretion. The tour is available to the public year‑round and is not sponsored by or affiliated with AAHGS or NCAAHGS.
