Characters on the Scott Monument: Their Stories

The statuettes, 64 of named characters, 4 of generic characters from Sir Walter Scott’s poems and novels are an important part of the Scott Monument. They showcase some of his writings, appearing in twenty five of them. The sculptors have captured the personalities of these characters through the details incorporated into these individual works of art. This talk will summarise the statuettes on the monument and provide detailed examples of a few of the statuettes and how they shed light on the characters.
