About this Event
This event is a must-attend for anyone interested in paediatric dysphagia! Join us at The University of Melbourne for a deep dive into the world of cervical auscultation and its role in diagnosing swallowing difficulties in children. This 2-day worskhop is suitable for paediatric speech pathologists in all practice areas including private practice, community and child health, disability services, special education, those working with children with complex conditions, and hospital and health services (neonatal and paediatric). Learn from experts in the field - Adjunct Associate Professor Thuy Frakking and Associate Professor Kelly Weir. Network with fellow professionals working in paediatric dysphagia.
Day 1 focuses on learning about normal swallow sounds and breath sounds in children across different food and fluid textues and volumes. Learn about equipment for cervical auscultation including the stethoscope and microphone recordings and the perceptual and acoustic features of swallowing and breath sounds in normal and abnormal swallows including those of typical children and infants/children with dysphagia.
Day 2 provides more practical training on differentiating between aspirating and normal swallow and respiratory sounds, videofluoroscopic and cervical ausculation examples, describing and reporting findings using CA in clinical practice, reviewing the evidence for use of cervical auscultation in children, and learing about swallow sound in special infant and paedatric populations.
