About this Event
Dave is at the heart of the recycling and composting hub that links neighbourhood houses from Flemington to Carlton. He collects food waste from local restaurants and cafes and brings it to the centre. He also connects us with timber mills for sawdust, which adds carbon to our compost. All that work above ground, and the relationships behind it, make our compost richer and more complex, and that compost goes back into our garden beds to grow healthy food. Dave shows how looking after ecosystems above ground supports the ones below it.
We'll dig a little deeper into soil biology, turn some compost and rebuild a compost bay together. Then we'll sit down for lunch and keep building the connections that brought us to this table.
This event is part of Growing Healthy Communities, a series that brings people together around food in Carlton. Every event is a chance to share a meal, meet new people and make friends. Some come along on their own, others with a friend, and everyone leaves with something in common. Through food, culture and connection, we also explore what a secure food system looks like and how we can build one together. The program is designed mainly for university students, and everyone in the Carlton community is welcome.
Growing Healthy Communities is funded by VicHealth.
