About this Event
This 8-week workshop is designed for students who are interested in creating a larger, more ambitious ceramic sculpture. Rather than producing multiple small projects, participants will devote the entire course to developing one significant piece from concept to completion.
Working with approximately one 50 lb. box of clay, students will learn how to plan, construct, refine, and finish a substantial sculpture while learning sound building techniques for larger work.
Throughout the course, instructor Darren Corona shares his personal creative process, including:
• Developing ideas and turning concepts into finished sculptures.
• Planning and constructing large ceramic forms.
• Surface development and texture.
• Incorporating color into my sculptural work.
• Finishing techniques and preparing work for firing.
Students will receive individualized guidance every step of the way, with plenty of one-on-one instruction tailored to their project. I will also share images of my completed sculptures to illustrate techniques, discuss artistic decisions, and inspire ideas.
This workshop is ideal for students who are ready to move beyond smaller projects and experience the rewarding process of creating a meaningful, finished sculptural work.

INSTRUCTOR BIO:
Darren Corona (whose work is pictured above) is a ceramic artist with more than 30 years of experience working in clay, prioritizing sculptural forms over functional pottery. Darren's deepest passion lies in exploring the unpredictable nature of Raku and alternative firing techniques, where fire, atmosphere, and chance are an integral part of the creative process. His work combines traditional ceramic knowledge with experimentation, color, texture, and a willingness to embrace the unexpected.
As a longtime ceramic educator, Darren shares his experience and enthusiasm for clay with students and fellow artists. Teaching classes and workshops across all skill levels is one of the primary ways he keeps his passion for clay ignited.
