Cap off the long weekend with a night of music, dancing, and good company.Mi'kmaw drumming and singing group Sons of Membertou opens the show with a welcome to their community and traditional Mi'kmaw songs. Formed in 1992 when a group of elders presented a drum to Darrell and Sharon Bernard, the group has spent more than thirty years performing at festivals, powwows, concerts, and gatherings across North America and Europe. Their 1995 album Wapna'kik (The People of the Dawn) was re-released by Smithsonian Folkways in 2025.
The Voices of Ireland, Don Stiffe, Ger O'Donnell, and Trevor Sexton, bring powerful vocals and rich harmonies from the Irish folk tradition. Between them they've collaborated with Dolores Keane, Cherish the Ladies, Sharon Shannon, and Paul Brady, and have sold out venues across the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, the US, and Ireland.
Grammy-nominated fiddler and National Heritage Fellow Liz Carroll teams up with multi-instrumentalist Jake Charron, of Juno-winning band The East Pointers, for tunes from their album Half Day Road. Step dancers Dawn MacDonald-Gillis and Helen MacDonald join them on stage, bringing synchronized footwork honed since childhood in New Waterford and Iona, with credits including Buddy MacMaster in Concert and tours with Natalie MacMaster and the Barra MacNeils. Frequent performers at Celtic Colours since 2010, it's a pleasure to welcome them back.
A great way to send off Thanksgiving weekend.
