About this Event

Let’s talk about men’s mental health. 💙

This November, the Gender Network and Allied Men are bringing colleagues together for a special in-person event in support of Movember.

📅 Thursday 12th November
📍 John James Room
🎤 Guest speaker: Alan Furlong

As part of the event, we’ll be raising money for Movember and coming together to support the challenge of changing the face of men’s health.

We’re delighted to be joined by Alan Furlong, who will lead an open and interactive session exploring men’s mental health, wellbeing and what it really means to thrive.

Alan will share some of his own journey before introducing his EMPOWERS framework, giving us the opportunity to reflect on the different foundations that contribute to a thriving life and the small, everyday behaviours that can have an impact on our wellbeing.

This won’t just be a session where you sit and listen. There’ll be opportunities to reflect, have conversations in smaller groups, share experiences and ask those questions you’ve always wanted to ask.

The session will finish with a focus on turning the conversation into action, encouraging everyone to identify one positive change they can take away and build into their daily life.

Whether this is a topic close to you, you want to better support the people around you, or you simply want to come along, listen and learn, everyone is welcome.

What to expect 💙
  • An open conversation around men’s mental health and wellbeing
  • Hear from Alan and his own journey
  • Take part in Alan’s EMPOWERS assessment
  • Reflect on what helps us to thrive and the challenges that can get in the way
  • Small-group discussions and the opportunity to connect with colleagues
  • Practical ideas and actions you can take away from the session
  • An open Q&A
  • Fundraising in support of Movember
  • A welcoming space to listen, learn and get involved

The aim is simple: to help people better understand the small, everyday behaviours that can contribute to stress, burnout and poor mental health, while exploring practical changes that can help us look after ourselves and better support those around us.

Come along, be part of the conversation and help us support Movember. 💙
