"A Journey through Long Lost Oakland"
Join us for a look at a historical map developed by Liam O’Donoghue of the East Bay Yesterday podcast. “Long Lost Oakland” features some of the most impressive features of the local landscape that no longer exist – from stunning architecture to bygone infrastructure and even extinct plants and animals. As we live through a moment when we can look around and literally watch the landscape of our city change before our eyes, this map highlights the many transformations Oakland has already experienced. This presentation will blend art and history in order to explore how our past connects to the world we live in today and the future we may be living in soon.
Liam O’Donoghue is the host and producer of East Bay Yesterday podcast and KPFA radio program. His journalism has appeared in Mother Jones, Salon, Snap Judgement, and 99 Percent Invisible. O’Donoghue has given presentations on local history at libraries, schools and bookstores and throughout the Bay Area, as well as at institutions such as The California Historical Society, Oakland Museum of California, Berkeley City Club, and Commonwealth Club. His show has been called "The Best Podcast about the East Bay” by East Bay Express and he has been honored by Oakland Heritage Awith a “Partners in Preservation Award.”
Following the lecture we will enjoy a Champagne reception with sweets and savories. Please call Richelle Lieberman at 510.381.1973 for reservations. We appreciate knowing how many people will attend to provide sufficient seating and refreshments.
