Caring for someone with dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or another progressive condition can quickly become overwhelming. Caregiver Bootcamp & Road Map is designed to help caregivers move from simply reacting to each new challenge to planning proactively for what may come next.
In this first class of our two-part series, Catherine McDermott, PMHNP, will walk caregivers through 10 essential things every caregiver should know, organize, and begin implementing to create a safer, more manageable caregiving journey.
Topics will include establishing daily routines, improving communication, recognizing changes before they become crises, organizing medications and medical information, preparing important legal and financial documents, evaluating home and driving safety, building a care team, understanding available resources and respite options, preparing for disease progression, and protecting the caregiver’s own physical and emotional health.
The goal is simple: Don’t wait for a crisis to create a plan. Caregivers will leave with practical steps they can begin implementing immediately and a clearer road map for navigating the future as their loved one’s needs change.
About the Presenter
Catherine McDermott, PMHNP is Co-Owner of Town Square University Parkway, Gulfside Behavioral Care, and Coastal Senior Healthcare. She is a double board-certified Nurse Practitioner with 30 years of experience, specializing in geriatric patients and individuals living with cognitive impairments. Catherine brings extensive clinical knowledge along with firsthand experience helping families navigate the medical, behavioral, and practical realities of progressive disease.
This class is FREE and open to the public as part of the Town Square University Parkway 4th Annual Health Expo & Resource Fair.
Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early to help secure a seat.
