About this Event
Not a job fair. Leave with a stronger résumé, a sharper profile, and one concrete next step.”
Career Access Lab is a practical career workshop for people who want to improve the materials and skills they actually use in a job search.
No recruiter booths.
No employer presentations.
No promise that someone in the room will hire you.
Instead, twenty-four participants work through three small-group labs:
• Résumé improvement
• Interview practice
• LinkedIn and professional-profile clarity
The room is organized around three broad career lanes:
• Policy / Public Affairs
• Technology
• Nonprofit / Mission-Driven Work
Mentors review materials directly with participants, help identify vague or unsupported language, and give practical feedback that can be acted on immediately.
The session ends with one concrete action each participant commits to completing within seven days.

LAB 1 — RÉSUMÉ SIGNAL
A strong résumé does more than list responsibilities.
This lab uses a simple structure:
ROLE → EVIDENCE → ACTION → RESULT
Participants identify bullets that are:
• Too vague
• Too internally worded
• Missing evidence
• Overloaded with jargon
• Difficult for someone outside the current organization to understand
Mentors help participants improve clarity without inventing accomplishments.
AI & RÉSUMÉ WRITING
AI tools may be used to:
• Rewrite a sentence
• Compare wording options
• Shorten a bullet
• Identify vague language
• Improve structure
AI may not be used to invent:
• Employers
• Job titles
• Degrees
• Certifications
• Security clearances
• Responsibilities
• Performance metrics
• Awards
• Projects you did not complete
Participants remain responsible for verifying that all résumé content is factually accurate.
LAB 2 — INTERVIEW PRACTICE
Participants practice a combination of:
• One behavioral question
• One role- or sector-related question
The framework:
SITUATION
What was happening?
DECISION
What did you decide needed to happen?
ACTION
What did you personally do?
RESULT
What happened?
REFLECTION
What did you learn or change afterward?
The goal is not to memorize a scripted answer.
The goal is to make your evidence easier to follow.
LAB 3 — LINKEDIN / PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Participants review areas such as:
• Headline
• About section
• Role descriptions
• Skills framing
• Career-transition clarity
• Professional positioning
The session does not guarantee increased profile views, recruiter outreach, or platform visibility.
INDUSTRY CAREER TABLES
After the three mini-labs, participants return to their professional lane for a short guided discussion.
POLICY TABLE
What makes someone credible in policy work when the title alone does not explain the skill?
TECHNOLOGY TABLE
Which transferable skills are often hidden behind company-specific language?
NONPROFIT TABLE
How do you show scope and impact when the work is mission-driven and resources are limited?
The tables then consider:
Which skill travels well into another sector, and what evidence makes that transfer believable?
YOUR TAKEAWAY
Every participant completes a:
CAREER ACCESS ACTION SHEET
Before leaving, identify:
ONE RÉSUMÉ CHANGE COMPLETED
What did you improve today?
ONE PROFILE CHANGE COMPLETED

ONE INTERVIEW ANSWER REVISED
