Join us in celebrating our sister city relationship with Nara, Japan at the Canberra Nara Candle Festival on Saturday 24 October. 🕯️✨Festivities start from 4pm and run till 9pm in Canberra Nara Peace Park, Lennox Gardens.
The Canberra Nara Candle Festival began in 2003 as a celebration of the Canberra Nara Sister City relationship and has grown to become one of Canberra's key cultural events promoting the values of peace and goodwill. 🕊️🔔
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Australia and Japan.
Highlights of this year's festival include Japanese cultural activities such as calligraphy, origami, lantern–making, martial arts demonstrations, a Cosplay competition and live entertainment.
The centrepiece of the festival is a display of 2,000 candles which are lit at dusk and create a beautiful river of candlelight weaving its way around the Canberra Nara Peace Park. 🤩
A range of traditional Japanese cuisine and market stalls will be on sale at the event.
