CANADIAN ART - Emily Carr
Art Workshop for Adults
📅 October 24, 2026 | 10:00 AM–12:00 PM
📍 Newmarket Public Library, 2nd Floor, Story Room
With internationally recognized artist Kate Medvedok
Continue our new series exploring Canadian art through the artists who shaped the way we see Canada.
Our second workshop is dedicated to Emily Carr, one of Canada’s most celebrated and distinctive artists. Best known for her powerful paintings of British Columbia’s forests, landscapes, and Indigenous cultural surroundings, Carr developed a highly personal style that moved beyond traditional landscape painting. Her expressive brushwork, bold forms, and rich colours captured the energy and spirit of the West Coast.
Carr’s paintings invite us to see nature not simply as a landscape, but as something alive, mysterious, and deeply connected to place.
During the workshop, Kate Medvedok will introduce you to Emily Carr’s artistic journey and distinctive visual language, then guide you step by step as you create your own artwork inspired by Carr’s expressive approach.

Y. Jackson and Tom Thomson, and the distinctive vision of other Canadian artists.
