2026 Call for EntriesTheme: From Fridge Art to Fine Art
We believe creativity lives in every home, from doodles taped to the fridge to masterpieces on the gallery wall. Artists of all ages, styles, and experience levels are invited to submit work to our annual Community Art Show. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just discovering your creative spark, this is your chance to share your work and take part in a joyful celebration of local creativity.
This year, the Community Art Show also returns to its roots. For nearly two decades, the exhibition was held in the historic Matthews Opera House before moving to the Matthews Gallery. Bringing the show back to the Opera House returns this community tradition to the space where it first took shape. Through this show, we celebrate not only the skill and imagination of local makers, but also the creativity throughout our community and the many ways art in all forms bring us together.
Important Dates
Drop-off Entries: November 3rd-7th
Monday-Friday 10-5 & Saturday 10-3
Opening Reception & Awards Announcement: November 14th, 5:00–7:00 PM
Exhibit Closes: November 21st. We will be open on that Saturday from 10-3.
Pickup of Pieces: November 24th-30th
Closed November 26th & 27th for Thanksgiving.

Entry Details
All original 2D & 3D art of any size. All submitted artwork must be appropriate for audiences of all ages. If you are unsure or have any questions regarding the eligibility of work, call us at (605)642-7973 or email Tia at [email protected]
Adults (18+): Up to 3 entries — $20 each
Grades 9–12: Up to 2 entries — $10 each
Grades 6–8: Up to 2 entries — $10 each
Grades 1–5: Up to 2 entries — $10 each
Kindergarten & Under: Up to 2 entries — $10 each
Artwork Preparation
All 2D work must be framed and wired with proper hanging devices. Artwork MUST be framed unless it’s on gallery-wrapped canvas. NO SAWTOOTH HOOKS or tape. If work comes with improper hanging hardware, the work will not be hung. 3D work must also be stable and ready to install. NO wet paint or glue.

Sale of Artwork.
The Matthews retains a 30% commission on all sold pieces. This helps support Matthews operations and future community programs. We’ll handle all applicable sales tax on your behalf.
Additional Information
All work proven to be a direct copy will be disqualified. Artists may use other artists’ work as inspiration only. The Matthews reserves the right to photograph any entry for publicity purposes.
Awards
Awards will be given in eight categories. Winners are announced at the opening reception. People’s Choice will be revealed on social media at the close of the exhibit.
Best of Show: $125
People’s Choice: $75
Adult 2D: 1st – $100 | 2nd – $75 | 3rd – $50
Adult 3D: 1st – $100 | 2nd – $75 | 3rd – $50
High School: 1st Place – $50
Middle School: 1st Place – $20
Grade School: 1st Place – $20
K & U: 1st Place – $20
