⭐️Our Feature | ARIBA ⭐️
Ariba (she/her) is a poet based in Calgary. Her poetry is about issues that matter most to her and the thoughts that refuse to leave her alone when she's lying awake at night. Her art deals with empowering moments, relationships, alongside a sprinkle of satire. She was a finalist at the Calgary Poetry Slam Finals 2026 and a graduate student at the Cumming School of Medicine. Her sleep paralysis demon embodies itself as unfinished poems and an incomplete thesis.
📋 Sign Up System 📋
Due to the overwhelming response in people looking to share their poetry we have devised a new system in hopes of hearing all your voices.
No more lining up at 6:30pm to sign up! Doors will still open at 6:30pm. But sign up will be announced on mic on the stage at 7pm. Poets will come to the stage to sign up for either the open mic or the slam. You can only sign up for one or the other not both. There will be no cut off. All that want to sign up can. All names who want to do open mic will be put in a jug. 5 names will be pulled. Those 5 names will be our open mic poets. All the people who want to slam be put in a different jug. 12 names will be pulled from the jug. Those 12 people will enter the slam.
For all the people who's names DID NOT get pulled. Your names will be added twice to the following months slam.
Want to come watch and not perform? That's totally okay!
🎤Slam rules🎤
->Bring 3 poems, each 3 minutes or less. Depending on the number of slammers, the format of the slam will either be round robin, or 3 round elimination. The format of the slam will be decided on the night of by the Slam Master, and any adjustments to that format is at the discretion of the Slam Master.
->You do NOT have to have your poems memorized, and you may read from your phone or paper.
->Poems are scored by randomly selected audience members.
->ANARCHY SLAM RULES means there are no rules! Bring your props! Wear your costumes! Rap to backing tracks! Do that trumpet solo! The only rule we are still adhering to is the time limit. 3 minutes with 10 second grace. After that you lose a half point for every 10 seconds you go over.
