Join us on Tuesday 29th September, from 12pm – 3pm, as Penrhiw Priory takes part in Cadw’s Open Doors. Alongside more than 200 historic properties across Wales, you’ll be able to explore the historic priory and enjoy its tranquil setting, surrounded by nature and wildlife.
This is a free event, please note that parking is available in our meadow but is limited, so we kindly encourage visitors to arrive on foot where possible.
A Glimpse into Our History
Penrhiw Priory has a history stretching back centuries. The site was once one of the three Bishopric farms of St Davids, with a 14th-century longhouse forming part of the original buildings. The present house was built in 1884 as a vicarage for the Church in Wales. In the 1960s, Penrhiw began a new chapter as a priory for the Community of St John the Evangelist, becoming home to a community of nuns. They lived and worshipped here until 1985, when the priory closed. After later serving as a guesthouse and retreat, Penrhiw was carefully restored and reopened as the luxury retreat it is today.
Our sister properties are also taking part in Cadw’s Open Doors. On Monday 28th September, 12pm–3pm, take a step back in time and explore 800 years of history at Roch Castle. Then, on Wednesday 30th September, 12pm–3pm, explore Twr y Felin Hotel’s original windmill tower and uncover more about its fascinating past.
