Light Up Buxton!Join us for a magical evening of light, creativity and community as the Through the Shop Window Lantern Procession makes its way through Buxton town centre on Saturday 28 November.
Featuring handmade lanterns created by local residents during workshops led by Buxton Sparkles, the parade will celebrate the people, places, businesses and traditions that have helped shape Buxton. Inspired by this year’s theme, Makers Past & Present, the lanterns will shine a light on the craftspeople, traders, performers and community groups who have contributed to the town’s unique character.
The parade marks the launch of Buxton Through The Shop Window – 2026, a town-wide heritage trail exploring Buxton’s past and present. As the lanterns weave through the town centre, they will bring colour, warmth and festive spirit to the streets while inviting visitors to discover the trail throughout the Christmas season.
The event also forms part of the amazing Buxton Christmas Lights Switch-On, organised by JT Events, helping to create a full day of festive activities for residents and visitors alike. Together, the lantern parade and lights switch-on will kick off the Christmas season in style, celebrating everything that makes Buxton such a special place.
Please note that the parade involves walking outdoors in November weather conditions and crossing a number of roads along the route. Participants should wear suitable clothing and footwear for the conditions, and children should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Stewards will be present to help ensure the parade moves safely through the town centre.
Everyone is welcome to come along, watch the parade and enjoy this festive celebration of heritage, creativity and community. Whether you’re carrying a lantern or cheering from the sidelines, it’s a wonderful opportunity to be part of a truly community-led event.
