Building Resources of Hope: Fostering Inclusive Environments in Schools

A Two-Day Workshop with Educator Tvrtko Noa Pater (HERMES, Croatia)

About the workshop

The Department of Education at Maynooth University is pleased to welcome Tvrtko Noa Pater, a trainer from HERMES (Croatia), to support educators to confidently engage with polarising views polarising discourses affecting schools, around race, ethnicity, migration, gender and sexuality and other aspects of inclusion.

The workshop will explore the psychology and sociology of polarisation in society and school settings. It will include exercises and skill-building activities that will empower educators to seek out, engage with, and enter into dialogue with people whose views differ (sometimes radically) from their own on questions of identity, belonging, discrimination, globalisation, and power inequalities.

The workshop will equip educators to respond to emerging educational challenges with confidence adopting constructive and non-polarising approaches that foster inclusion for everyone in education.

About the facilitator

He is lead author of the DARE toolkit (Depolarisation Activism for Resilient Europe): a strategic partnership between five civil society organisations from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Germany, Serbia and Sweden. He has served as trainer at the Model International Criminal Court educational programme, Peer Guide trainer for the Anne Frank: A History for Today travelling exhibition, and British Parliamentary debate trainer. The DARE method draws on Narrative Therapy, Positive Youth Development, Nonviolent Communication, Critical Pedagogy, Conflict Transformation and Bohmian Dialogue
