About this Event
Broom Making Workshop
Instructor Chelsea Townsend guides students through creating their own functional “turkey wing” style hand whisk out of natural broom corn using simple tools and traditional Appalachian techniques.
All supplies are included and no experience is required, although students will need some upper body and hand strength. Long sleeves are suggested for those with grass allergies.
This class is offered in honor of the historic "Hodges Broom Works" that operated more than 100 years ago on the plot of land that Five Points Community Garden now occupies.
BONUS: Students will be able to see actual broom corn growing in the back of the garden.
About the Instructor
Chelsea made her first broom six years ago after apprenticing with a master broom maker in north Georgia. She has since sold hundreds in all sizes and styles. You can find her at www.blossomsandbrooms.com, Facebook & Instagram.
