About this Event
Join us for Brooklyn Cranksgiving — the annual bike-powered food drive and scavenger hunt that’s part race, part adventure, and 100% fun! Ride solo or with friends as you explore Brooklyn, complete quirky challenges, and support local food justice organizations.
Start: Principles GI Coffee House (139 9th Street in Gowanus/Red Hook)
Check-in: 11 am
Ride Begins: 12 noon
End: We will all meet at Transmitter Brewing (Bldg 77 at 141 Flushing Avenue in Brooklyn Navy Yard) for a great end to the event where you can eat, drink, and meet fellow riders.
Note: The ride is on Saturday this year
Our ride format is self-led with a "make your own route" style so you can choose how far and where you ride. This is not an organized ride with a pre-planned route. Riders receive a "checkpoint" manifest that gives different options at which to stop. The goal is to visit as many checkpoints as possible within the allotted timeframe, then all riders meet at the finish point to submit their completed manifest, where we'll distribute prizes. You can go in any order and follow whichever route you choose, and volunteers will be on hand to help you build your route if you need help. Check out this video from News 12 to see what this event is like.
The ride is free but we strongly encourage riders to donate as much as possible (at least $50) to support this year's food equity partner, Red Hook Initiative, who are doing great work in our community with their youth-centered urban agriculture and food justice program.
This ride was inspired by the desire to provide meals to people in need around Thanksgiving, and because we recognize that supporting broader food access and justice initiatives are a more lasting solution than simply donating cans of food, we have chosen to have riders donate money directly to various food-focused initiatives, such as Red Hook Initiative's farms.
All ages and skill levels welcome. Come solo, bring friends, or we’ll help match you with a group.
* We will also have a volunteer leading solo riders who wish to work together and ride as a group*
Costumes are optional — but highly encouraged (Thanksgiving or leftover Halloween vibes always win big).
Registration via Eventbrite is required, both so we can gauge attendance to help prepare for the ride, and because participating in the ride means you agree to this participation waiver.
