About this Event
The longest month of the year is officially over - let’s kick off February with a refreshing day of conservation volunteering at Railside Community Garden!
Railside Community Garden is built on a previously disused piece of land, next to a train line, giving it the name “Railside”. The Community Garden Association came together in 2018 to lease the land from Network Rail and transform the site. It is now an oasis of calm in the local area and is well loved by residents.
The 42 raised beds are used to grow vegetables, fruits and flowers, all shared with the local community, while thriving beehives produce honey and pollinate the many fruit trees. The space also supports a range of community events throughout the year, such as coffee mornings, plant sales, workshops and creative sessions for children.
As a volunteer, you might be planting, potting, weeding, or building raised beds and steps! Activities are always weather dependent but the event will go ahead in the case of light rain. Please wear sensible clothing and footwear with legs and arms covered, and pack a waterproof layer.
All the necessary materials will be provided, although if you have your own gardening gloves, do feel free to bring them along! Lunch will not be provided, so please bring water and snacks. There are many shops on Streatham High Street, which is a short walking distance away.
Come with friends, family or just bring yourself and meet some new people!
