The Milwaukee Festival Brass will open its 42nd season with a concert entitled “Brass:Old and New.”
“Music has a unique ability to connect the past and the present, bridging centuries of
tradition with fresh, inventive sounds,” said Dr. Mark A. Taylor, the Music Director of
Milwaukee Festival Brass. “This program highlights that contrast, celebrating timeless
masterworks alongside modern compositions and arrangements that showcase the full
dynamic range of the British-style brass band.”
The concert kicks off with a spirited rendition of Irving Berlin’s “There’s No Business Like
Show Business,” arranged by Goff Richards, followed by Joseph Horovitz’s engaging
and sprightly feature for two cornets, Concertino Classico. The first half also features
Gustav Holst’s monumental Moorside Suite, one of the seminal masterworks of the
brass band repertoire.
Listeners will also hear original works and arrangements from the band's resident
composer, David Grace, including Clamor Cornuum and a setting of Night on Bald
Mountain. Rounding out the program is William Rimmer’s classic march Deeds of
Daring.
