About this Event
Experience the powerful stories, history, and spirit of Born a Revel in this live presentation of selected excerpts. Through dramatic storytelling, music, movement, dance, and spoken word, these soul-stirring scenes bring generations of family history and legacy to the stage.
The performance explores the lives and legacies of Hiram Revels, Susie Revels Cayton, Mycajah Revels, and Morning Jacobs. It also shares the story of James “The Indian” Revel and his connection to the Matomkin (Accomack) Indians, alongside other fascinating stories of the people, experiences, and generations that shaped the Revel legacy.
The excerpts are performed live and narrated by the writer, Whitley Revels, offering audiences an intimate look at the stories and ideas behind the larger work. This is an evening of memory, identity, ancestry, resilience, and discovery—bringing history close through performance.
Join us at the newly named Samuel L. Roundtree Theatre at Booker T. Washington High School for an unforgettable experience celebrating history, family, and the power of stories passed from one generation to the next.
