About this Event
Stories, Culture, Community & the Freedom to Read
Join us for an afternoon of books, poetry, Japanese sake, and meaningful conversation!
Bring a book or two (or more!) to exchange, discover new reads, and connect with fellow book lovers in a welcoming, culturally diverse setting.
Here's what's in store:
📚 Book Swap – Bring books you've enjoyed and exchange them for new discoveries. All genres are welcome!
🍶 Sake 101 with Mari – Discover the culture and traditions of Japanese sake through an introductory educational experience and tasting.
✍️ Poetry Reading – Enjoy a special reading by Esther Castillo-Lerma, author of Fragments.
📖 A Conversation on the Freedom to Read – Spotlighting Beloved by Toni Morrison, we'll explore book restrictions, what's happened right here in Colorado, and who gets to decide which stories are accessible to our communities.
More Than a Book Swap: A Civic House Party!
Hosted in partnership with Warm Cookies of the Revolution, this Aurora Civic House Party brings people together to explore civic participation in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Our conversation will focus on how decisions affecting our communities are made, why our voices matter, and how we can become more informed and involved.
Because civic engagement doesn't have to happen in a government building. Sometimes it starts with a book, a conversation, and a few new friends!
Space is limited. Registration is required!
Please reserve your spot ONLY if you plan to attend. If your plans change, kindly cancel your registration so someone else can join us.
🍶 Sake tasting is optional and available to guests 21 years and older.
💧 Let's keep it green! Bring your reusable water bottle. A water fountain is available on-site, helping us reduce single-use waste.
Come curious. Bring a book. Leave with a new story—and perhaps a new perspective!
